BTS: John Bell
John Bell (AKA JB, soccer-player) is the second person after my brother to want my assistance with styling. He has great statement pieces: “Pleat Please” trousers by Issey Miyake, bedazzled jeans by Kapital, Vintage T’s (a lot of them) and infinite Jordans. I would only recommend some more polished garments. He is a streetwear aficionado, however he could elevate his wardrobe with basics such as button down shirts, a variety of belts in different colors/finishes, more earth-tone neutrals and general accessories.
Being an athlete, most of his closet is casual and ergonomic. A way to maintain the culture appeal without loosing his streetwear edge is selecting intricate basics. Intricate basics are articles which are for everyday use ie. hoodies, jeans, sneakers, baseball/trucker hats, possessing unique characteristics of embellishment. They are elevated basics containing details such as applique, textile manipulation and my favorite, hardware. An example could be the Givenchy S/S 2022 white, button-up shirt with a simple, silver mechanism used to fasten a complimenting, white sash that draps across it. A button-up shirt is a staple in anyone’s closet. The fact that is has a metal detail, gives it a personality, makes it fun to style, useful and cutting-edge. It can be worn alone as a statement or as a foundational basic.
JB’s wardrobe would only profit from having clothing that mixes elegance with practicality, streetwear with couture elaborateness, youth adjacent to adulthood. He will achieve this with time and with the right advice.
